Toyota 4Runner? Check. $60 bicycle? Check. $300 bike rack? Check. Mounting that bike rack upside down, strapping the bike in awkwardly, and looking like an idiot? Check. Thanks for the morning giggle, 4Runner!

How could someone get that so completely wrong? I can't even figure out how it's attached, honestly.

Wow. I can totally see someone standing there scratching their head before wildly flapping their arms and randomly pulling straps and tying knots and whatever.

The bike is cinched down with a couple of straps tied to the frame of the rack, versus being strapped in using the plastic straps on the arms of the rack. All I know is I wouldn't want to be behind this driver on the freeway, lol.

I saw something similar recently you just reminded me. They had the top hooks for the strap hooked onto the window instead of the top of the hatch. I made sure to get far away bc one good bump and the window was gonna be gone.

Seriously. Figuring out how to use a bike rack isn't rocket surgery. ^_~

I like the old-school smalltown main street look there. Seems like Texas has preserved a fairly large number of these.

The driver of that 4Runner is a person who never had legos as a kid, or anything type of toy that involved assembly.

Wait, maybe we've been doing it all wrong - I bet that saves like .3 MPGs

Looks like the rack is mounted right but it appears to be a cheap saris knockoff and is probably busted.

Heh. That's because it is a small town main street. This particular town, however, is in severe need of some infrastructure maintenance and repair, but you're right, a lot of Texas communities have preserved their "downtown" districts. There's been a trend in the past 10-20 years, actually, to revitalize these kinds of areas, especially in smaller communities far from metro regions. It's kinda nice. You can still find mom and pop stores all over the place, both decades-old, and brand-spanking new. If I had my own business, I wouldn't mind having a storefront in a place like that. They tend to foster a unique sense of community with neighboring businesses.

You're right. I saw the curve of the arms and for a second thought it was upside down. I don't have a Saris. I've got a cheap, collapsible aluminum rack with straight arms that angle slightly upward. I actually kind of like it better. I used to use my brother's Saris but after a few years of him abusing it, the plastics on it had become a bit loose and warped. It never felt very secure to me. I like that mine is all metal and won't face that problem in years to come. Plus, any parts on it that are plastic (like the tie down straps) are cheaply and easily replaceable. The $40 price tag didn't hurt, either. ^_^

Right? How hard can it be to figure out? I mean, really, it's not. I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and say it happened because they tried doing it before they had their morning coffee. At least, I hope that's what happened, because I really don't like the idea of someone on the road with that little common sense.
